DVUnused
DVUnused is a Windows application for analysing Emerson DeltaV FHX export files
and identifying configuration objects that appear not to be referenced by other
exported configuration.
It provides a practical way to review potentially unused library and batch
configuration without requiring a connection to a running DeltaV system.
Key Features
- Analyses one or more DeltaV FHX export files.
- Identifies configuration objects with no detected references from the analysed configuration.
- Shows both used and apparently unused objects.
- Shows which configuration objects reference a selected object.
- Supports filtering by object type, category and name.
- Distinguishes recipe Operations and Unit Procedures.
- Provides direct viewing of the original FHX source for analysed objects.
- Exports analysis results and reference information to Excel.
- Uses revision information when the same object occurs in multiple loaded FHX files.
DeltaV Configuration Types
DVUnused analyses references for commonly reusable DeltaV configuration,
including:
- Function Block Definitions
- Module Classes
- Unit Classes
- Phase Classes
- Batch Recipe Operations and Unit Procedures
- Named Sets
- Alarm Priorities
- Alarm Types
Reference Analysis
DVUnused analyses relationships between objects in the loaded FHX configuration.
This includes class and definition references, batch recipe step references,
Unit Class references, Named Set usage and alarm-related references.
Selecting an object shows the configuration objects that reference it, making it
possible to investigate why an object is considered used before making engineering
changes.
Multiple FHX Files and Revisions
Multiple FHX files can be analysed together. This is useful where configuration
has been exported in separate files but references cross the boundaries between
those exports.
When the same configuration object occurs in multiple loaded FHX files, DVUnused
uses the latest revision identified from the FHX revision timestamp.
Excel Reporting
The currently displayed analysis results can be exported to an Excel workbook.
The export includes the analysed objects, their usage status and reference
information, together with a summary of the analysis and source files.

Engineering responsibility
An object reported as Unused has no detected reference from the
configuration analysed by DVUnused. This does not prove that the object is unused
elsewhere in the DeltaV system. Relevant configuration may not have been included
in the loaded FHX files, or a reference may not be recognised by the software.
Objects identified as unused should therefore be treated as candidates for
engineering review, not as confirmation that they can safely be deleted.
